The Dream

So here we are with a one-year-old, two dogs, and three and a half weeks from closing on what we intended to be our forever home. Six years ago we bought our first three-bed, two-bath country home set just outside of a small town and had every intention of sticking around forever.

Why in the world would we sell our dream home?

We have a BIGGER dream.

A dream of spending time as a young family traveling more and living on less, a lot less. Free from the financial burdens we have placed upon ourselves living the so-called American dream.

We find ourselves these days like most our age in a significant amount of debt. Student loans top the list by far, but we also have significant medical bills after a rough pregnancy and two weeks in the NICU with our little Tman, and of course, some high-interest credit cards as well.

While we can afford to keep making ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck is not how we WANT to live. We have a dream to have our finances under control and give more. We have dreams to travel and not being tied down to a specific place because of money. We have a dream to simply live.

So here we are… closing on our house in a few weeks and getting ready to purchase a fifth-wheel camper to live in for the next few years while we pay off debt. We plan to fully embrace tiny living and travel as much as possible. While there are quite a few families that embrace the full-time RV life these days, they are at least smart enough to chase good weather. Haha. Eric and I still have full-time jobs that don’t allow a full-time travel option. We are sticking it out year-round in Illinois and escaping on as many vacations and long weekends as possible.

Redefined refuge is the place where you can see and read updates on our big adventure. The good, the bad, and the tiny! What an adventure I am sure it will be!

Have we bitten off more than we can chew? Most likely, but we are no strangers to adversity. We have shared lots of ups and downs in our lives and marriage and honestly, I think we’ve got this. Time will tell, but we are excited to take on the challenge.

We can only control so much, God’s got the rest and we are completely comfortable accepting that reality.

Wish us luck and be sure to add your email to the email list if you want to follow along with our little family!
